Myopia Control
What is Myopia?
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a common refractive error where distant objects appear blurry, often developing in childhood or adolescence. It occurs when the eye grows too long, preventing light from focusing properly on the retina. Left unmanaged, myopia can increase the risk of serious eye conditions such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, and cataracts.

Key Information
Symptoms of Myopia
- Squinting to see distant objects
- Holding books or devices close to the face
- Sitting closer to the board in class
- Difficulty focusing at school
- Frequent headaches or eye strain
Why Myopia Control Matters
Currently, about one-third of the U.S. population has myopia, and by 2050, half of the global population is expected to be myopic. Slowing the progression of myopia in childhood is critical to reducing the risks of long-term eye diseases, including myopic macular degeneration and retinal detachment.
Our Myopia Control Treatments
At Refine Optometry, we offer several scientifically-proven therapies to manage and slow the progression of myopia:
- Orthokeratology (Ortho-K): Special lenses worn at night to reshape the cornea and provide clear vision during the day without glasses or contacts.
- MiSight Lense: Soft daily contact lenses worn during the day specifically designed for children to help slow the progression of myopia.
- Low-dose Atropine Drops: Eye drops applied nightly to slow eye growth.
